Crop Progress Update – 9/13/21
According to the USDA, the percentage of corn identified to be in good or excellent condition as of Sep 12th declined slightly from the previous week, finishing slightly below analyst expectations. The percentage of soybeans identified to be in good or excellent condition as of Sep 12th remained unchanged from the previous week, finishing equal to analyst expectations.
Corn:
Corn dent as of the week ending Sep 12th was 87% complete, finishing slightly behind last year’s pace of 88% completed but remaining ahead of the five year average pace of 81% completed.
Corn maturation as of the week ending Sep 12th was 37% complete, finishing slightly behind last year’s pace of 39% completed but remaining ahead of the five year average pace of 31% completed.
An additional 16% of the total U.S. corn crop matured during the week ending Sep 12th. Weekly increases in corn maturation on a percentage basis were led by Maryland, followed by Delaware and Tennessee.
Corn harvest progress as of the week ending Sep 12th was four percent complete, finishing slightly behind last year’s pace of five percent completed and the five year average pace of five percent completed.
58% of the current corn crop was identified to be in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Sep 12th, down one percent from the previous week. The current corn crop identified to be in good or excellent condition finished slightly below analyst expectations of 59%. 15% of the current corn crop was identified to be in very poor or poor condition, up one percent from the previous week.
Soybeans:
38% of the soybean crop has dropped leaves as of the week ending Sep 12th, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 35% completed and the five year average pace of 29% completed.
An additional 20% of the total U.S. soybean crop dropped leaves during the week ending Sep 12th. Weekly increases in soybean leaf dropping on a percentage basis were led by Michigan, followed by Nebraska, Illinois and Minnesota.
57% of the current soybean crop was identified to be in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Sep 12th, unchanged from the previous week but up one percent in the ‘excellent’ category. The current soybean crop identified to be in good or excellent condition finished equal to analyst expectations. 14% of the current soybean crop was identified to be in very poor or poor condition, unchanged from the previous week.
