Crop Progress Update – 9/7/21
According to the USDA, the percentage of corn identified to be in good or excellent condition as of Sep 5th declined slightly from the previous week, finishing slightly below analyst expectations. The percentage of soybeans identified to be in good or excellent condition as of Sep 5th increased slightly from the previous week, finishing equal to analyst expectations.
Corn:
Corn dough as of the week ending Sep 5th was 95% complete, finishing slightly behind last year’s pace of 97% completed but remaining slightly ahead of the five year average pace of 94% completed.
Corn dent as of the week ending Sep 5th was 74% complete, finishing behind last year’s pace of 77% completed but remaining ahead of the five year average pace of 69% completed.
An additional 15% of the total U.S. corn crop reached the dent stage during the week ending Sep 5th. Weekly increases in corn dent on a percentage basis were led by South Dakota, followed by Oklahoma and Michigan.
Corn maturation as of the week ending Sep 5th was 21% complete, finishing slightly behind last year’s pace of 23% completed but remaining slightly ahead of the five year average pace of 19% completed.
59% of the current corn crop was identified to be in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Sep 5th, down one percent from the previous week. The current corn crop identified to be in good or excellent condition finished slightly below analyst expectations of 60%. 14% of the current corn crop was identified to be in very poor or poor condition, unchanged from the previous week.
Soybeans:
Soybean pod setting as of the week ending Sep 5th was 96% complete, finishing slightly behind last year’s pace of 98% completed but remaining equal to the five year average pace.
18% of the soybean crop has dropped leaves as of the week ending Sep 5th, finishing equal to last year’s pace and ahead of the five year average pace of 15% completed.
An additional nine percent of the total U.S. soybean crop dropped leaves during the week ending Sep 5th. Weekly increases in soybean leaf dropping on a percentage basis were led by North Dakota, followed by Michigan and Michigan.
57% of the current soybean crop was identified to be in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Sep 5th, up one percent from the previous week. The current soybean crop identified to be in good or excellent condition finished equal to analyst expectations. 14% of the current soybean crop was identified to be in very poor or poor condition, down one percent from the previous week.
