Crop Progress Update – 8/30/21
According to the USDA, the percentage of corn and soybeans identified to be in good or excellent condition each remained unchanged from the previous week through the week ending Aug 29th. The percentage of corn identified to be in good or excellent condition finished slightly above analyst expectations while the percentage of soybeans identified to be in good or excellent condition finished consistent with analyst expectations.
Corn:
Corn dough as of the week ending Aug 29th was 91% complete, finishing slightly behind last year’s pace of 93% completed but remaining slightly ahead of the five year average pace of 89% completed.
Corn dent as of the week ending Aug 29th was 59% complete, finishing slightly behind last year’s pace of 60% completed but remaining ahead of the five year average pace of 55% completed.
An additional 18% of the total U.S. corn crop reached the dent stage during the week ending Aug 29th. Weekly increases in corn dent on a percentage basis were led by Maryland, followed by Oklahoma.
Corn maturation as of the week ending Aug 29th was nine percent complete, finishing slightly behind last year’s pace of 11% completed and the five year average pace of ten percent completed.
60% of the current corn crop was identified to be in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Aug 29th, unchanged from the previous week. The current corn crop identified to be in good or excellent condition finished slightly above analyst expectations of 59%. 14% of the current corn crop was identified to be in very poor or poor condition, also unchanged from the previous week.
Soybeans:
Soybean pod setting as of the week ending Aug 29th was 93% complete, finishing slightly behind last year’s pace of 95% completed but remaining slightly ahead of the five year average pace of 92% completed.
Nine percent of the soybean crop has dropped leaves as of the week ending Aug 29th, finishing slightly ahead of last year’s pace of seven percent completed and the five year average pace of seven percent completed.
56% of the current soybean crop was identified to be in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Aug 29th, unchanged from the previous week. The current soybean crop identified to be in good or excellent condition finished equal to analyst expectations. 15% of the current soybean crop was identified to be in very poor or poor condition, down one percent from the previous week.
