Crop Progress Update – 4/26/21
According to the USDA, corn planting progress finished slightly behind five year average levels during the week ending Apr 25th while soybean planting progress finished slightly ahead of five year average levels.
Corn:
Corn plantings as of the week ending Apr 25th were 17% complete, finishing behind last year’s pace of 24% completed and the five year average pace of 20% completed. Corn planting progress finished slightly below analyst expectations of 18% completed.
The majority of corn plantings have been completed throughout the states of Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Texas and North Carolina as of the week ending Apr 25th.
An additional nine percent of the total U.S. corn crop was planted during the week ending Apr 25th. Weekly increases in corn plantings on a percentage basis were led by Arkansas, followed by Washington, North Carolina and Tennessee.
Corn emergence as of the week ending Apr 25th was three percent complete, finishing equal to last year’s pace but slightly behind the five year average pace of four percent completed.
Soybeans:
Soybean plantings as of the week ending Apr 25th were eight percent complete, finishing slightly ahead of last year’s pace of seven percent completed and the five year average pace of five percent completed. Soybean planting progress finished slightly above analyst expectations of seven percent completed.
Soybean planting progress was led by Mississippi, followed by Arkansas, Texas and Illinois as of the week ending Apr 25th.
An additional five percent of the total U.S. soybean crop was planted during the week ending Apr 25th. Weekly increases in soybean plantings on a percentage basis were led by Mississippi, followed by Arkansas and Illinois.
