Crop Progress Update – 6/8/20
According to the USDA, corn and soybean planting and emergence progress remained ahead of five year average levels during the week ending Jun 7th. The current corn crop identified to be in good or excellent condition finished consistent with analyst expectations while the current soybean crop identified to be in good or excellent condition finished slightly above expectations.
Corn:
Corn plantings as of the week ending Jun 7th were 97% completed, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 78% completed and the five year average pace of 94% completed. Corn planting progress finished consistent with average analyst expectations of 97% completed.
Corn emergence as of the week ending Jun 7th was 89% completed, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 57% completed and the five year average pace of 84% completed.
An additional 11% of the total U.S. corn crop emerged during the week ending Jun 7th. Weekly increases in corn emergence on a percentage basis were led by North Dakota, followed by Pennsylvania, Montana and Wyoming.
75% of the current corn crop was identified to be in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Jun 7th, up one percent from the previous week. The current corn crop identified to be in good or excellent condition was consistent with analyst expectations. Just four percent of the current corn crop was identified as very poor or poor, unchanged from the previous week.
Soybeans:
Soybean plantings as of the week ending Jun 7th were 86% completed, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 54% completed and the five year average pace of 79% completed. Soybean planting progress finished slightly below average analyst expectations of 87% completed, however.
An additional 11% of the total U.S. soybean crop was planted during the week ending Jun 7th. Weekly increases in soybean plantings on a percentage basis were led by Delaware, followed by North Dakota and New York.
Soybean emergence as of the week ending Jun 7th was 67% completed, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 30% completed and the five year average pace of 61% completed.
72% of the current soybean crop was identified to be in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Jun 7th, up two percent from the previous week. The current soybean crop identified to be in good or excellent condition finished slightly above analyst expectations of 71%. Just four percent of the current soybean crop was identified as very poor or poor, unchanged from the previous week.
