Planting Progress Update – 9/19/16
According to USDA, corn and soybean conditions remained favorable to previous year levels through the week ending Sep 18th.
Corn:
74% of the corn crop remained in good or excellent condition during the week ending Sep 18th, with 19% of the corn crop identified as fair. These figures were unchanged from the previous week and remain favorable when compared to the previous year, when only 68% of the corn crop was identified as good or excellent.
Corn denting stood at 93% during the week ending Sep 18th, up from 92% experienced during the previous year and a five year average figure of 91%.
53% of corn has matured through the week ending Sep 18th, up from 48% experienced during the previous year and a five year average figure of 48%.
Corn harvested stood at 9% during the week ending Sep 18th, consistent with the previous year but below the five year average figure of 12%.
Soybeans:
73% of the soybean crop was deemed good or excellent during the week ending Sep 18th, with 20% of the soybean crop identified as fair. These figures were slightly improved from the previous week and remain favorable when compared to the previous year, when only 63% of the soybean crop was identified as good or excellent.
46% of soybeans have dropped leaves during the week ending Sep 18th, down from 50% experienced during the previous year but higher than the five year average figure of 43%. 4% of soybeans have been harvested through the week ending Sep 18th, down from 6% experienced during the previous year and a five year average figure of 5%.
