Planting Progress Update – 9/12/16
According to USDA, corn and soybean conditions remained favorable to previous year levels through the week ending Sep 11th.
Corn:
74% of the corn crop remained in good or excellent condition during the week ending Sep 11th, with 19% of the corn crop identified as fair. These figures were unchanged from the previous week and remain favorable when compared to the previous year, when only 68% of the corn crop was identified as good or excellent.
Corn denting stood at 87% during the week ending Sep 11th, up from 84% experienced during the previous year and a five year average figure of 82%. 33% of corn has matured through the week ending Sep 11th, up from 31% experienced during the previous year and a five year average figure of 32%.
Soybeans:
73% of the soybean crop was deemed good or excellent during the week ending Sep 11th, with 20% of the soybean crop identified as fair. These figures were unchanged from the previous week and remain favorable when compared to the previous year, when only 61% of the soybean crop was identified as good or excellent.
26% of soybeans have dropped leaves during the week ending Sep 11th, down from 30% experienced during the previous year but slightly higher than the five year average figure of 25%.
