Planting Progress Update – 8/29/16
According to USDA, corn and soybean conditions remained favorable to previous year levels through the week ending Aug 28th.
Corn:
Three quarters of the corn crop remained in good or excellent condition during the week ending Aug 28th, with 18% of the corn crop identified as fair. These figures were unchanged from the previous week and remain favorable when compared to previous year figures.
Corn dough stood at 92% during the week ending Aug 28th, up from 90% experienced during the previous year and the five year average figure of 87% while corn denting stood at 60% during the week ending Aug 28th, up from 54% experienced during the previous year and the five year average figure of 52%.
Soybeans:
73% of the soybean crop was deemed good or excellent during the week ending Aug 28th, with 20% of the soybean crop identified as fair. These figures increased slightly from the previous week and remain favorable when compared to the previous year, when only 63% of the soybean crop was identified as good or excellent.
94% of soybeans have set pods during the week ending Aug 28th, up from 91% during the previous year and a five year average figure of 92%.
