Planting Progress Update – 8/22/16
According to USDA, corn and soybean conditions remained favorable to previous year levels through the week ending Aug 21st.
Corn:
Three quarters of the corn crop remained in good or excellent condition during the week ending Aug 21st, with 18% of the corn crop identified as fair. These figures increased slightly from the previous week and remain favorable when compared to previous year figures.
With corn silking completed, attention turns to dough and denting figures. Corn dough stood at 85% during the week ending Aug 21st, up from 81% experienced during the previous year and the five year average figure of 76%.
Corn denting stood at 40% during the week ending Aug 21st, up from 34% experienced during the previous year and the five year average figure of 35%.
Soybeans:
72% of the soybean crop was deemed good or excellent during the week ending Aug 21st, with 21% of the soybean crop identified as fair. These figures increased slightly from the previous week and remain favorable when compared to the previous year, when only 63% of the soybean crop was identified as good or excellent.
With soybean blooming completed, attention turns to pod setting figures. 89% of soybeans have set pods during the week ending Aug 21st, up from 85% during the previous year and a five year average figure of 85%.
