Planting Progress Update – 8/15/16
According to USDA, corn and soybean conditions remained favorable to previous year levels through the week ending Aug 14th.
Corn:
Nearly three quarters of the corn crop remains in good or excellent condition during the week ending Aug 14th, with 19% of the corn crop identified as fair. These figures increased slightly from the previous week and remain favorable when compared to previous year figures.
With corn silking 97% complete through the week ending Aug 7th, attention turns to dough and denting figures. Corn dough stood at 73% during the week ending Aug 14th, up from 65% experienced during the previous year and the five year average figure of 60%.
Corn denting stood at 21% during the week ending Aug 14th, up from 18% experienced during the previous year and consistent with the five year average figure of 21%.
Soybeans:
72% of the soybean crop was deemed good or excellent during the week ending Aug 14th, with 21% of the soybean crop identified as fair. These figures were consistent with the previous week and remain favorable when compared to the previous year, when only 63% of the soybean crop was identified as good or excellent.
Soybean blooming stood at 95% during the week ending Aug 14th, up from 92% experienced during the previous year and the five year average figure of 93%. 80% of soybeans have set pods during the week ending Aug 14th, up from 76% during the previous year and a five year average figure of 75%.
