Crop Progress Update – 6/18/18
According to USDA, corn and soybean emergence has trended ahead of previous year levels through the week ending Jun 17th while seasonal good-to-excellent crop conditions remain at long-term record highs.
Corn:
Corn emergence as of the week ending Jun 17th was 98% complete, finishing slightly ahead of last year’s pace of 97% and the five year average pace of 97%.
A total of 78% of the corn crop was in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Jun 17th, up slightly from the previous week, while just 4% of the corn crop was identified as in poor or very poor condition.
The current seasonal good-to-excellent corn conditions were the highest experienced throughout the past 27 years.
Soybeans:
Soybean plantings as of the week ending Jun 17th were 97% complete, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 95% and the five year average pace of 91%.
Soybean emergence as of the week ending Jun 17th was 90% complete, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 87% and the five year average pace of 81%.
A total of 73% of the soybean crop was in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Jun 17th, while just 5% of the soybean crop was identified as in poor or very poor condition.
The current seasonal good-to-excellent soybean conditions were tied for the highest experienced on record, despite declining slightly from the previous week.
