Crop Progress Update – 6/4/18
According to USDA, corn and soybean planting progress and emergence have trended ahead of previous year levels through the week ending Jun 3rd while seasonal good-to-excellent crop conditions remain at long-term record highs.
Corn:
Corn plantings as of the week ending Jun 3rd were 97% complete, finishing slightly ahead of last year’s pace of 95% and the five year average pace of 95%.
Corn emergence as of the week ending Jun 3rd was 86% complete, finishing slightly ahead of last year’s pace of 84% and the five year average pace of 83%.
A total of 78% of the corn crop was in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Jun 3rd, while just 3% of the corn crop was identified as in poor or very poor condition. The current seasonal good-to-excellent corn conditions were tied for the highest experienced throughout the past 27 years.
Soybeans:
Soybean plantings as of the week ending Jun 3rd were 87% complete, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 81% and the five year average pace of 75%.
Soybean emergence as of the week ending Jun 3rd was 68% complete, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 55% and the five year average pace of 52%.
A total of 75% of the soybean crop was in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Jun 3rd, while just 4% of the soybean crop was identified as in poor or very poor condition. The current seasonal good-to-excellent soybean conditions were tied for the highest experienced on record.
