Crop Progress Update – 10/13/20
According to the USDA, corn harvest progress remained above five year average levels but finished below analyst expectations. The soybean harvest progress remained at a four year seasonal high level, finishing slightly above analyst expectations.
Corn:
Corn maturation as of the week ending Oct 11th was 94% completed, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 69% completed and the five year average pace of 87% completed.
Corn harvest progress as of the week ending Oct 11th was 41% completed, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 20% completed and the five year average pace of 32% completed. Corn harvest progress reached a four year seasonal high level but finished below analyst expectations of 45% completed.
61% of the current corn crop was identified to be in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Oct 11th, down one percent from the previous week but up one percent in the ‘excellent’ category. 14% of the current corn crop was identified as poor or very poor, up one percent from the previous week.
26% of the Iowa corn crop was identified to be in poor or very poor condition as of the week ending Oct 11th, up two percent from the previous week. Millions of acres of Iowa corn and soybean crops were heavily damaged by the early August derecho. 44% of the Iowa corn crop was identified to be in good or excellent condition, down one percent from the previous year and remaining at a seven year seasonal low.
Soybeans:
Soybean leaf dropping was 93% completed as of the week ending Oct 11th, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 81% completed and the five year average pace of 90% completed.
Soybean harvest progress as of the week ending Oct 11th was 61% completed, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 23% completed and the five year average pace of 42% completed. Soybean harvest progress reached a four year seasonal high level, finishing slightly above analyst expectations of 60% completed.
63% of the current soybean crop was identified to be in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Oct 11th, down one percent from the previous week. 11% of the current soybean crop was identified as poor or very poor, up one percent from the previous week.
18% of the Iowa soybean crop was identified to be in poor or very poor condition as of the week ending Oct 11th, unchanged from the previous week. 49% of the Iowa soybean crop was identified to be in good or excellent condition, also unchanged from the previous week and remaining at a seven year seasonal low level.
