According to USDA’s annual winter wheat seedings report, seedings fell on a YOY basis for the seventh consecutive year during 2020. 2020 winter wheat seedings of 30.80 million acres finished 0.36 million acres, or 1.1%, below the previous year figure, reaching the lowest figure experienced on record. National winter wheat seeding figures have been compiled since 1960. Winter wheat seedings finished 0.5% above average analyst estimates of 30.66 million acres, however. Winter wheat seedings were led by Kansas, followed by Texas and Oklahoma. The aforementioned states combined to account for over half of the total U.S. winter wheat seedings. The most significant YOY decline in winter wheat seedings was experienced throughout Montana, followed by Colorado and Nebraska, while Texas experienced the largest YOY increase in winter wheat seedings.
